Longtime association figure dies

Carey Stephen Carey, an association management consultant and former CEO of what is now the Destination Marketing Association International, died of cancer Jan. 21 in Bethesda, Md. He was 68. Carey most recently was president of AMMR-Association Management Consultants, a business he started after stepping down as head of DMAI in 1993. His association career stretched back to 1978, when he joined the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association as director of management and member services.
